During the battle of Anandpur Sahib, Bhai Kanhaiya Ji was found giving water to wounded soldiers — both Sikh and enemy alike.

When questioned by Guru Gobind Singh Ji's soldiers, Bhai Kanhaiya Ji replied that he saw no difference between friend and foe; he saw only human beings in need, and the light of Waheguru in every person.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was moved by this reply and blessed him, saying he had understood the true teaching of Sikhi — seva without discrimination.

This story remains a cornerstone of the Sikh values of compassion and selfless service (seva).
